Astros' Moehler to have season-ending surgery

08/25/2010 - Philadelphia, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Houston Astros announced pitcher Brian Moehler, sidelined since early July, will have surgery to repair a muscle in his lower abdomen that will end his 2010 season.

Moehler has twice tried to pitch in rehab assignments since suffering the injury on July 7, only to tear the tendon off a bone in his groin. The surgery will be performed on September 1 in Philadelphia.

The earliest Moehler can begin a throwing program is November, though it is unclear if he will be healthy enough when spring training commences.

In 20 appearances for Houston this year, including eight starts, the 38-year- old veteran went 1-4 with a 4.92 earned run average.
